The charisma experiment: what we teach can be measured
The question
How much does delivery matter if the content is the same?
How did we measure it?
- 1,231 participants, a sample representative of the Hungarian population aged 16–69, using Europion's mobile research app
- Two videos: the same speaker, the same script. The first is neutral; the second is more energetic, with more active body language.
- About 600 people watched each video and rated it on eight criteria, including charisma, credibility, holding attention, persuasiveness and motivating effect.
What did we find?
Seen as confident
Seen as charismatic
The second video was rated higher on all eight criteria. Its motivating effect, ability to hold attention and willingness to cooperate were significantly higher.

What does this mean for training?
Charisma isn't a gift; it's a skill that can be developed. Body language, tone of voice and energy can be practised – this is what we work on in the Charisma coaching for leaders programme and the Presentation skills training.
